Terry Wilford is eager to be in contention for the Mobil 1 V8 Supercars title from early in the new season and a pair of strong results this coming weekend (January 27-29) at Zwartkops Raceway will aid his cause.
While the 2021 season remains undecided until the following weekend’s Kyalami 9 Hour, Wilford will have his sights set on contesting for points and silverware from the start at Zwartkops Raceway, particularly with the season opener forming part of the Passion For Speed roster.
Currently, Wilford (#21 Fuchs Lubricants Ford Falcon) finds himself in fifth place on the 2021 points table. The year saw him take two race wins, one in the season opener and the other in the previous race; also held at Zwartkops Raceway.
“It’s always nice to start a season as the guy who won the previous race and we had some strong moments throughout last year, but we need to work on consistently bringing home those results” says Terry. “A lot of development went into my car in the last year and we already saw glimpses of what’s to come in the recent two rounds, but we will have to push a bit harder to have those changes reflect positively on the points table. At present, there are a lot of determined and exciting drivers competing in the series and we want we stake a claim on the 2022 title from early on.”
The weekend will consist of a three-day programme, starting with a host of official and unofficial practice sessions on Thursday and the first half of Friday. Qualifying is scheduled for 15:10 on Friday. Saturday’s two 12-lap races are scheduled for 10:00 and 16:15.
