Antonie Marx is ready for a strong campaign in the 2020 Mobil 1 V8 Supercars season and will aim to open his account on the points table with two solid finishes from the season opener weekend (January 30 – February 1) at Zwartkops Raceway.
The Jaguar V8 driver will start his second full season in the championship and feels positive ahead of the new challenges that lie ahead for both himself and the TiNCo Garage Motorsport team. “Last year was a massive learning curve for us” says Marx. I think very few people realise how difficult it is to set these cars up properly as well as to drive them on track. After the third round, we realised that we were firmly out of the championship already which saw us really focus more on our development for the new season. In 2020 we want to hit the ground running.”
The new season will also see changes regarding team branding and sponsorship. “At present, we can’t say too much as some confirmations will only come closer to the race weekend. We are looking forward to announcing our 2020 partners come Thursday and will again be promising them maximum brand reach. At the same time we’d like to point out that we still have some opportunities available. Anyone interested in getting involved can feel free to contact us.”
Round 1 will also be held on a grand stage with the championship invited to participate at the annual Passion for Speed. For years this has been the circuit racing season opener on the South African calendar and is listed as one of the biggest events at the Pretoria circuit. Traditionally this has been more of a classic car race day, however the last decade saw a host of modern series being invited to share the day.
The race weekend will take place over three days with the first of three practice sessions scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Following Friday practice Marx will head into the Qualifying session. Both Saturday’s races will be contested over 12 laps around the 2.4 km circuit and are scheduled to start at 10:15 and 16:25. Spectator tickets can be purchased via www.itickets.co.za.
