Heading into Round 3, Wood in the Kyocera-liveried Volkswagen Golf trails his stablemate by 15 points. This gap he would want to decrease at the Cape Town circuit.
“We’ve overcome the issues we had at Zwartkops and will be aiming for victory at Kilalrney” said Wood. “Thus far Brad had been able to collect four wins, but if I can get the upper-hand during qualifying I know I will be able to keep him at bay on track as we are very evenly matched.”
The Volkswagen Motorsport team are finding themselves in control of the class after the first two rounds, but this will allow Wood to get into a comfort zone. “It will in fact be quite the opposite for me. I’ve got four podium finishes from four starts while Brad has taken the wins. I would not want him to get away too far in front to avoid pressure during the latter part of the season. I need to take the topple those scales now and start to diminish his lead.”
Killarney is a circuit that Wood enjoys competing at: “I love the long straights and fast corners, it makes for nice, flowing racing. There are opportunities to make use of a slipstream to execute passes”
Friday will consist of three practice sessions ahead of Saturday morning’s qualifying session and two championship races.
