Three weeks after the tragic events that took place at Red Star Raceway, Antonie Marx is preparing to take on his Mobil 1 V8 Supercars rivals at Zwartkops Raceway. The March 8 to 9 race weekend will also see him with a new inspiration to record a strong result.
The Red Star Raceway weekend has entirely been scrapped from the 2019 calendar. This will see the upcoming round at Zwartkops Raceway being the new season opener. Marx, having competed there before in his Xado Jaguar is looking forward to it: “We showed good pace at Zwartkops during our one outing in 2018. Since then we’ve worked a lot on the car as well as driving styles, etc. It will therefore be a great opportunity to make a strong start to our season.”
The past few weeks have been quite intense for Marx as he explains: “The events surrounding Nic Louw’s death shook us all up a bit. I think I must have asked the question over and over: why we are doing something life threatening and calling it sport. Even as we prepare for Zwartkops I realise how easy it is to replace a car part or piece of trim; the same doesn’t apply to a human life. That said, Red Star Raceway serves as extra motivation for us. We want to excel this weekend and deliver a good show. We are also dedicating our efforts for the weekend to Nic. May his passion for motorsport live on through us all and the way we compete on the track.”
The weekend will see Marx competing in two Mobil 1 V8 Supercar races. He would like to invite all motorsport fans in Gauteng to attend the day’s action at Zwartkops Raceway which will form part of the first regional Extreme Festival for the 2019 season. Fans of Marx are also invited to follow his Facebook page www.facebook.com/AntonieMarxRacing for results and updates
Marx would like to thank Xado and TiNCo motorsport for making his 2019 Mobil 1 V8 Supercars campaign possible.
