The weekend started off on a high note, with Kwanda qualifying his FA kart in pole position. He led the first race on Sunday morning, but didn’t seem to have the same pace as on Saturday. The very competitive front runners fought tooth and nail for the top spot and Kwanda was left to finish the race in 5th.
Race 2 went much better for the young champ, as he drove his way to 3rd and his first podium of the day. Kwanda had another superb race in heat 3, claiming 2nd place. He went on to make it three out of four podiums by taking 3rd in the final heat.
Thanks to some bad luck earlier in the season, Kwanda was not really in the running for the championship title, but a lot can be said for his “never say die” spirit. Kwanda, his technician, Miles Thabang and the entire Squadra Corse team can be proud of their achievements during 2018 and will no doubt continue to go from strength to strength.
Kwanda is now off to Italy for the Rok World Cup Final, before returning home for two regional events.
