The coming weekend (November 21-23) will see Deon Holliday Jnr returning to the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit in his Monitor Net Volkswagen Polo in search of a solid result in the Volkswagen Invitational race supporting the Intercontinental GT Championship’s Kyalami 9 Hour.
Holliday Jnr will be one of the drivers participating in the combined Falken Polo Cup and VW Challenge race that will serve as curtain raiser for the international event. The fact that this is not a championship event will motivate him even more to come home with two good finishes at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.
“Firstly competing at Kyalami is always great, but I think that this weekend there will be a lot of personal pride weighing on it” says Holliday Jnr. “There’s no championship, no bag-the-points and no bouncing back at the next circuit. It’s a good opportunity to end the season on a high and I’ll be in a strong position to compete at the front of Class B. I love the new Kyalami layout and I’ll be pushing to bring home some silverware.”
With the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit making a return to the VW Challenge roster for the 2020 season, Holliday Jnr also sees this as a good opportunity to prepare for his championship assault in the year that lies ahead. “As you would expect in an off season, there’s a lot of talk at present about who’ll be moving to which class. In our case there’s no uncertainty, we’ll be in Class B and we’ll be there with the Volkswagen Polo we’re competing with now. This coming weekend we will also be using the Dunlop tyres that the championship will be utilizing in 2020, so a good show here will see us carrying a bit of a mental edge into next season already.”
Both races will be contested over 10 laps from a standing start. Race 1 is scheduled for 17:20 on Friday afternoon with Race 2 on Saturday morning at 10:40. The Volkswagen invitational races will enjoy live TV coverage on SuperSport 12.
