Step in “A” new direction for Megatron Auto Sport Team

It has been a turbulent 2017 season for the Team. Despite regularly showing good pace spent the bulk of the season battling for minor points-paying positions in Class B. With three rounds to go in the championship Needham won’t line up on the Class B grid at on Saturday, October 14. So where will he be.

In preparation for the 2018 campaign the team have recently acquired a Class A specification Polo with the final three rounds of the season being used for on-track preparation. With lots of work ahead the team is eagerly anticipating the challenge ahead.

Needham shares his excitement: “This is a completely new challenge for us. We’ve all seen some very good racing in the Class A field throughout the season and we’re looking forward to joining it. Of course we’re realistic and wer’re entering the race weekend with no idea of where we’ll end up in the pecking order. We’re however excited about this brand new road we’re taking.”

Apart from new competitors, the team will also be facing a host of new class rules and specifications as Needham explains: “it’s a whole new playing field for us, which is exactly why we want to utilise the remainder of our current season to prepare for our 2018 campaign. We’re making no secret about our intentions to start the new season as strong contenders. There’s a lot of hard work ahead, but we’re ready for it.”

The one familiar aspect ahead for the team is the circuit. Needham’s experience around Midvaal Raceway is a huge benefit ahead of the weekend: “Midvaal Raceway is our home circuit and we’ve completed a fair amount of testing at the circuit. This will count for something while we’re setting the car up according to my driving style and I’m positive that we’ll be taking forward a lot of valuable data after the weekend.”

With the team changing from a Class B to Class A entry, their current championship position won’t be of any major significance for the rest of the season; the goal for the remaining three rounds of the season will purely be car development.

The Megatron Auto Sport Team would like to invite their supporters and sponsors to attend the day’s racing and introduction of their new car.

The Megatron Auto Sport Team would like to thank for their sponsorship under the Megatron umbrella as well as 24-7 Race Fuels, Alloy Wheel Repair and Project Signs.

In addition the team would also like to acknowledge and thank the sponsors of the VW Challenge championship for making this exciting category possible: ATE Brakes, Dicktator Engine Management Systems, Glasfix Windscreen Repairs, Norbrake Distribution and Roofsure.
